Hello we are Jo and Ruth and we are Janners! We’re a couple who have decided to put our lives in Bournemouth (Google link), England on hold and go travelling around Australia and New Zealand. This blog is our online diary of our trip.
We met each other when at college in Plymouth whilst doing our A-Levels. We then went to different universities and just about stayed in touch. Whilst at uni Ruth visited Jo and some other friends who all lived in Bournemouth and we became a couple shortly after.
Before leaving for Oz we lived in our flat in West Cliff (Google link) in Bournemouth.
Say Hello to Jo
Jo is a beardy fella who is (ever-so-slightly) obsessed with music and surfing. He’s played guitar for years and left two bands behind in Bournemouth. He left just as the new surf reef at Boscombe in Bournemouth was due to be finished- something he he’s non-too-chuffed about.
Jo moved to Bournemouth in 2000 to go to university there. After graduating in 2004, he landed a job as a Web Designer, working for a Web site company called Intergage. After becoming the head of the Design & Delivery team in the main office and nearly four years of being an Intergager, Beardy Jo (as he is known) left to go walkabout.
Other than music and surfing, he’s into falling off his longboard (much to his friends amusement) and most things beach related!
Introducing Ruth
Ruth grew up in Plymouth and went to Uni in Canterbury to study to become an Occupational Therapist. In 2004 she qualified and has worked as an OT in Poole ever since. Ruth enjoys climbing and loves all things beach related.
About Our Trip
From a very young age we both wanted to explore Australia and are lucky enough that we both want to do the same things. Now we have managed to save up enough pocket money to make it a reality. New Zealand looks amazing and it would be a crime not to explore it while we over that side of the world.
The Plan (As of October 2008)
After stopping off in Hong Kong for a few days we’ll fly to Brisbane, Australia (Google link) on the morning of October 27th. We plan to spend up to a year working/ traveling our way around as much of Australia as possible before our visas run out.
Once this is done we intend to do the same thing in New Zealand and, if we are lucky enough, we’ll go to Fiji, Bali, Cook Islands and perhaps even Hawaii (Jo has his fingers crossed for this one) whilst we’re there or on the way back.
